| I do these every now and then, but usually do not have a benign thought for Mary-Sue tests. However, I really enjoyed one I recently took...not because of the result. It was very well-structured, and worth my time.
Here is the result:
Mheralo is nothing like you. She isn't really very cool: she blends into crowds, she hangs out on the fringes at parties, and wearing shades after dark makes her run into things. She may have sometimes thought that she was special, or destined for greater things, but probably dismissed the idea as a fantasy. She's come in for her share of hurt, but gotten off with minor damage. And she's gotten no slack from you.
In general, you care deeply about Mheralo, but you're smart enough to let her stand on her own, without burdening her with your personal fantasies or propping her up with idealization and over-dramatization. Mheralo is a healthy character with a promising career ahead of her.
I dunno if I have developed her better or what but...they did not ask about work ethic; a question which would have hindered the first statement.

| I love the writer's group I'm in up here, but some people do not understand that writing aids and tactics are NOT universal for all writers.
The director of the group wants us to draw a map and list our stories as "cities." I cannot do this, disregard the fact that it is mildly hard to create a new world out of one tyhat already exists, but most of my stories do not change settings but time periods!!!!!!!!!!!!! My mind cannot make place and time interchangeable...dammmit it just DOES NOT WORK with some people's stories, mine included...I just see one angle...I know it is supposed to promote creativity but it's just a headache for me.
I needed to get this out... I think I'll write some more of my shot I am currently at work on and drown my troubles in a couple of YGO eps tonight... writing is the only socially acceptable form of insanity...

| I apologize for The Frankenstein reference, but it is October....
Phantom Duelists has been updated....after over a year. I wanna buck this nasty trend, but school is more important.
But enjoy the update.

| rose_of_pollux has given me five (5) words that I have to explain what these words mean to me. The Five words she picked were: Josh Groban, Genesis (The Band), Writing, Erik (The Phantom), and Marik Ishtar. (who will be referred to by first name when I get to him.) (These were given to me in a different order but…) Josh Groban- I have loved his music as as I heard his version of “You raise me up.” Funny thing is that the single thought that crossed my mind every time I heard one of his songs; that thought being Groban would make a great Raoul. (from POTO) My thought was confirmed when I found this recording. His music also helps me write. There is one song that I credit with capturing an aspect of my story perfectly. Genesis (The Band) - The Genesis I grew up listening to had Phil Collins doing vocals, so it still remains hard for me to tell the difference between a Phil Collins Song and one by Genesis. There are groups you recognize because of the rhythm and sound of their music, and others you recognize because of their voices. For me, Genesis accomplishes both. Writing- For me writing has never been a chore after my freshman year of High School. For me, writing is so much more than putting words on a page. It is a relief to let your pen or fingers just fly, sometimes with rather odd results. Writing has proven both a challenge and a joy. The countless instances of writer’s block have been less than helpful. The odd thing is that although my writings for Phantom of the Opera are shorter and less numerable than those for my other genre, Yu-Gi-Oh, I feel so much more accomplished after completing a Phantom piece; I have yet to discover the source of this phenomenon. Erik (The Phantom) – What can I say? I am moved by his back story, and through reading Kay’s Phantom, have fallen in love with his character even more. I have yet to finish the novel. But something that I feel is very important is that he repents at the end. The fate of the story was not in Christine’s hands but his. If The Phantom had not let Christine go…well I doubt phans on any side would like the story. I know I wouldn’t. No matter who plays the role, it demands a lot of things, and each Phantom brings an equal amount of passion to the performances. I support Raoul X Christine and a Well-Written Erik X Christine. Sadly I have yet to find a good quantity of the latter mentioned. Marik- This guy has a sad back story too. Sorry I’m gonna return to Erik for a moment, but it is all for a reason. Despite Erik’s sad back story; that does no excuse him for the utter atrocities that he performed. When taken in that regard, I cannot look benignly upon him. Same with Marik, although there are a lot more moments that I cannot bring myself to see that there is a benign nature within the manipulative madman. Let’s just say that thanks to a few fanfics, I find myself sympathetic when I should be abhorred by his actions. He’s also the reason I got addicted to fanfiction. To bring Erik back into this paragraph, Marik’s character can only be fully realized when one takes the whole complete mirror rather than the painfully scathing individual shards. Marik also has to bear my almost inevitable references of him to Erik…he has been a good sport about it. Oh yeah, put “Words” In the comment and I’ll give you five to do this meme. TDH

| I finally posted a fanfic. College has kept me quite busy, but after four weeks, two As and four B's prove that I am working hard. I rewarded myself by using some of a Barnes & Noble Gift card to purchase some Phantastic books (Kay's Phantom and also Linforth's Madrigal)
So hopefully that will mean POTO plunnies too.

| Good news. I sent my Bob Dylan essay in today, and I woke up this morning. (This is always a good thing)
But thats where the good news kinda ends, but I have my narative essay done for my composition class, sadly done by hand. I installed this speech recognition software to cut the time it would take me to get the essay into a digital format by a considerable amount. The software hates me,.. I don't understand why XP Home doesn't have the preinstalled SR program that XP professional does. Well... I do...it's just that it would be great to have it on my laptop instead of getting my hopes up with this good software, only to have it show the dreaded and loathed "blue screen of death." Resulting in my removing the battery as the only way to get my comp functioning again. >_<
I intend to go to the University computer lab tomorrow and see if I can set up an SR on my user account. ( The Univ. Comps have XP professional and have the SR software as a result) And at least do half my essay there if I can.
The fanfics will come, I just need to get over this little....inconvienience first...not the essay

| But I am trying to get back in touch with them. A plunny is certainly helping with that....now to just write to where I can use it.
There is this writing group that meets weekly at my university and I have told the student director that if we get more fanfic writers than just me, I'd lead that section or team.
Writing a Bob Dylan essay too.
I am a happy writer at least.

| I am working on a 'project' that is in its very early infancy and cannot be completed without y'all's help. I have read a lot of great fanfics and taken a glance at some not so great ones and wondered why there isn't a "Fanfiction for Dummies"-esque boook on th matter. This actually started with me mulling over an original character's purpose in general on Friday.
But my vision is to have several topics such as picking a fandom, developing an OC for that fandom (unless you just want to write strctly for cannon), diction of certain characters, vocal address of characters, OCs, word choice, writing a summary for your fic, description, dialogue, and a happy medium between these two. There will be more than these.
I can't do this alone though, or I should say I cannot do this with only my fics as examples.
If you would like to have your fic used as part of this unofficial novice guide to fan fiction, I need the following things from you:
1. Your fanfiction penname or user id (I'll be using both to credit you but if I am given one I can find the other easy.) If you don't have an FF acct. I need a sutable psuedonym for you.
2. A list of what fanfics I may cite. Give me both good and not so good. I need bad examples as well. If no FF.net acct, either attach a copy of your work with fandom and title on it, or direct me to another location it is. ADULT FANFICS WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED.
3. Your thoughts on the selections you give me.
Please email these three things to theduelistsheiress@gmail.com, and put "fanfic manual" as the subject line. All work given me will be used for this manual only and will not be published in any form of entirety by me.
If you have an additional section to add and/or you would like to write a section for this manual, please use the email listed above and put "fanfic manual suggestion/help" in the subject line. I will not draft people to help write this thing. Please pass this idea on.
I thank you for your time to read this incredibly long entry, and I hope that this 'project' will be a success. TDH | comments: 3 comments or Leave a comment |

| Okay, I am supposed to do this in a comment, but I like answering in entries so modified rule 2, it's supposed to be comment.
1. Comment to this post with the name of a character that I have written in fics. Or geeked out about. Or RPed. You should probably make sure it's one I've written more than once or twice.
2. I will post an entry telling you the following: A. What initially prompted me to like the character enough to write about him/her. B. One of his/her best traits. C. One of his/her worst traits. D. How easy/difficult I find it to write the character. E. The story/chapter/paragraph/phrase where I feel that I truly captured the character (if I've written them). F. My plans (if any) to write the character in the near future. okay r_o_p wanted me to do Marik...wow what a surprise...no problem, I like answering questions with Marik...
A. What initially prompted me to like the character enough to write about him/her.
I have no idea...could be because one of the first fanfics I read had him as a main...could be because I think he's cute, that his backstory makes me cry to pieces...I don't really know.
B. One of his/her best traits.
I guess one of his best ones... if he has any at the point we see him most...would be how he thinks things through, of course not completely, but some of the situations he has a hand in, to put it mildly, are very carefully planned out; thank goodness that there are some things he never accounted for.
C. One of his/her worst traits.
Marik is very manipulative. Do I need to go any farther on this...? I will, but I'd rather not.
D. How easy/difficult I find it to write the character.
It depends on what aspect I need to portray. If I need to show one aspect after writing another for a while (i.e. RH Marik to concerned father Marik, or vice versa) it is kinda difficult to do. On the other hand writing one aspect (same two as above) for a while is very easy. Another difficult part for me to write is a remorseful Marik...It is possible, but not likely. But those possible, but not likely scenarios are what I tend to gravitate towards when writing.
E. The story/chapter/paragraph/phrase where I feel that I truly captured the character
In Healing Presence, I think I capture the best mixture of his aspects. But as for separate aspects...I believe Veracity, with the exception of the first chapter, captures the father I wrote him into. As for the more cannon-ish R.H. persona of Marik, Powers Revealed chapters 15-34 (my numbers).
F. My plans (if any) to write the character in the near future.
Oh I have plans, I can assure you. Book one of the powers trilogy is almost finished, then I start on book II, but first I finish my PDTO update.

| Update for PDTO is in the home stretch, but I think I'll start the Veracity update anyway; today is that fic's anniversary.
Also my dad's birthday, but he's having a muscle spasm, and a somewhat crummy birthday. Hopefully it'll be better later.
8 days till I go off to college...wow time flies. So I better start on that other update and hopefully get closer to finishing the PDTO update as well.
Also I figured you might want to see my laptop, so here are some photos. :)

There was this one commercial from the 90s that was a Reeses Peanut butter cup commercial. There were a bunch of these, but I specifically remember the Boomarang one where the guy bites it, throws it and it comes back. The tagline being "There's no wrong way to eat a Reeses."
Since I am still a bit of a kid at heart, my favorite is this Popcorn Commercial:

| So I had to answer five questions related to my fandoms.
So here we go,
1. How did Marik become your favorite YGO character?
Okay, he isn't exactly my favorite, the anchor thing was absolutely EVIL!!!! But he has a backstory that gets me every time, put that with sibling cuteness as well as the fact that one of the first fanfics I read had him as a main...and his dub voice is...makes him sound older than he actually is. Also he repents!!! That's why I like him so much.
2. How did Erik become your favorite POTO character?
As with Marik, not exactly my favorite...Erik tried to kill Raoul... was it three or four times? But he, at least ALW's version, has a backstory that gets me every time...and he gives great references. XD
3. What other fandoms would you like to try to write for?
Uh...I dunno... though I'm content with YGO & POTO right now, I think LoZ would be fun to write for.
4. What is your favorite Genesis song?
Toughie. I think it's a 2 way tie between "Hold on my Heart", and " Invisible Touch"
5. We know you like Marik the best. What other YGO characters do you like, and why?
I don't like Marik best. I just have a spot for him. I like everybody but the nasty nonrepentant ones.
Joey, comic relief and he's pretty cool. Kaiba has a heart somewhere, sadly Mokuba has to be in danger for anyone to see it. Yugi is awesome and cute, Yami is so calm and collected. Odion and Ishizu I love them; they are really complex. Noa repents, and has a change of heart because of Mokuba.

| I have had two years on FF.net. 15 stories, two of which are oneshots, another two as Oneshot collections, and one completed, later, I'm still having a blast. I will complete PR this year so help me I will!
Thank you to all my wonderful readers, and my friends who were willing to listen to my...rants/ explanatory lectures on why I write the way I do. I also have had fun bouncing ideas through my head. Gave me something to think about aside from Band, High School and the drama presented by both.
Thanks.
And a happy wedding Anniversary to my parents tomorrow. :)
